As we chose to create our OTS based on the dark web, choosing the right location was important as it played a large part in setting the overall mood. We chose to use dark locations as it set the scene and feeling of our OTS. Location choices also highlight when the scene was set, what the characters are like and what may be about to happen. For example, in a horror film an abandoned house in the rain with dull lighting will create a sinister atmosphere for the audience.
Having a variety of locations create a contrast and can juxtapose one another to make the audience second guess and fill in the missing gaps with their interpretations of what's happened, which keeps their attention and makes the film more interesting to watch. Contrasting locations can also give off different emotions to keep the audience engaged and it keeps the audience in the dark they won't know what to expect from the events that will unfold.
We chose to use three locations. We used inside the Drama studio which was pitch black giving a shallow empty feel. Then we chose to use the woods at the back of the school this made the atmosphere darken and add a sinister feel to the scenes shot. We also used another woods which was behind deserted land this made the scenes feel more realistic and plays with the audience mind.
