Look back at the Preliminary task - how have you improved since then?

Opening Title Sequence |
We opted to use the Prezi platform in order to present how we've progressed from our Preliminary task to our final Opening Title Sequence. In it, we chose to comment on areas that we felt had improved the most and aimed to cover a variety of different aspects of the production process.
Areas of improvement
Preliminary Task |
Opening Title Sequence |
In our Prelim task, we did not take into account the lighting that would be involved in the scene. This made it look overexposed and the footage also looked grainy.
|
On the other hand, in our Opening Title Sequence we paid close attention to ensuring that the lighting used complimented the content in the scene. For example - as can be seen above - the lighting used was focused on the heart that the actor was holding to suggest that something illegal was taking place as they are hiding in the dark.
|
In our Prelim, we did not consider the camera angles that we used at all. As a result of this, we ended up using a high angle which was inappropriate for the given scenario as it made the two characters appear lesser than the audience.
In comparison to our OTS, no effort went into the editing of the video. Due to not having a thorough understanding of Final Cut Pro, we were unable to produce a better looking and sounding video as we did not have the knowledge of the skills required to do so. When editing, we only created a sequence using the footage that we had captured and did not edit the audio.
|
When creating our Opening Title Sequence, using a variety of different camera angles and shots was important to us. As seen in the shot above, we positioned the camera in various different locations relative to the characters in the shot in order to give across different messages. For example, in this shot a low angle is used to suggest that the character running is dominant in this scene (the attacker in this instance).
Unlike our Preliminary task, significant efforts went into editing the final video. While in our Prelim we only put together a sequence of video, in our OTS we used a variety of tools to manipulate our footage as well as cutting each clip down to the perfect duration. Included in this, we also added various pieces of text which gave our audience additional info that was not visible from the video itself.
Audio was also an area of our OTS that we focused on compared to our Preliminary task. As can be seen in the screenshot above, we detached the audio from each piece of footage in order to manipulate it further to fit our audience's requirements. We normalised sound levels, changed the EQ to adjust our soundscape and applied various in-built effects in order to change how our audio sounded. |
